Case Study
Health Sciences Academy at Monroe Middle School (Monroe, NC) was a particularly challenging renovation project. None of the existing egress corridors were fired rated and isolated from the classrooms, a dangerous condition. Also, there were no reliable as-built drawings of the ductwork which was found to be crossing or on top of the corridor walls. This required an intensive as-built configuration assessment, creation of new as-built drawings, and design drawings for reconfiguration of all above ceiling systems in the vicinity of these corridors. All of this investigation and design work had to take place in a very short duration time window so that the construction work could take place while school was out over the summer. This project was successfully completed, resulting in this school opening back up in the Fall with safe fire-rated egress corridors throughout the building.
