Case Study
“St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Charlotte, NC contacted Shultz Engineering Group (SEG) after many years of frustration trying to solve high humidity issues throughout their classroom building. SEG visited the facility; carefully listened to the church leadership on the issues they had faced, and under what circumstances; thoroughly reviewed the existing building plans; and then again met with the church leadership to describe our findings and recommendations. During this meeting, which we attended after working hours at the church so that the entire leadership could attend, we described the causes of the issues; provided multiple plans of varying degree of scope, cost, and effectiveness; described potential schedules, project phasing, and affected building areas; and answered all questions. This allowed the church leadership to comfortably discuss and agree to the plan that best met their needs. Accordingly, SEG developed plans for changes, renovations, and new systems that provided much more effective ventilation, temperature and humidity control for the facility. Systems involved included building controls, chilled water piping, ductwork, air handlers, exhaust fans, and cooling towers. SEG took these plans to permit; created a bid package; assisted the church in qualifying a short list of bidders and selecting the successful contractor; regularly visiting and monitoring the site during construction; facilitating punch lists; and training the church leadership in the operation and maintenance of their new systems. Shortly after project completion, the church informed us that the indoor environment of the facility had significantly improved and they were very happy with the results of our work.” -St. Gabriel Catholic Church
