Brian D. Winkler, PE – Associate | Senior Electrical Engineer

Experience

Brian is an Electrical Engineer with over 20 years of experience in the engineering fields of Project Management, Lighting, Power, Standby Systems, and Fire Alarm Design.

Prior to joining Shultz Engineering Group, Mr. Winkler served with various firms in the course of his career.  It began as a CAD operator at Teeter Engineering Group, PA in Charlotte, NC on retail, restaurants, church, commercial and industrial building projects. Successfully completed the N.C. Engineering Intern exam during this period.

Upon graduating from the engineering program at the university, Mr. Winkler served 8 years as electrical engineer at Teeter Engineering Group, PA.  Passed the N.C. Professional Engineering (PE) exam during this time. Work experience included additional variety of residential, multi-family, hotels, mixed use facilities, veterinary hospitals, and grocery stores. Performed electrical design development and construction documents for lighting, power, fire alarm systems.  Visited jobsites to survey existing conditions and perform construction observations.  Coordinated design with Architects, owners, and other trade designers/engineers.

Served 2 years at Gunn & Associates, PC in Montgomery, AL as an Electrical Engineer. Performed electrical design and C.A.D. drafting of schematic, design development and construction documents for lighting, power, and fire alarm systems in institutional, houses of worship, military, commercial and industrial building projects. Visited jobsites to survey existing conditions and perform construction administration. Coordinated design parameters with Architects, owners and other trade Engineers.

Served 3 years at Optima Engineering PA as Lead Electrical Engineer in Raleigh, NC.  Performed electrical design and C.A.D. drafting of schematic, design development and construction documents for lighting, power, and fire alarm systems in commercial, retail, educational, and church building projects. Visited jobsites to survey existing conditions and perform construction administration. Performed lighting systems studies and made recommendations for improvement. Conducted quality assurance checks for designers and engineers.  Mentored junior designers and managed department draftsman and designers. Interacted with Architects, owners and other trade engineers to coordinate design parameters.

Served 1 year at Allied Consulting Engineers, PLLC in Charlotte, NC and Montgomery, AL as an Electrical Engineer. Performed electrical design and C.A.D. drafting of schematic, design development and construction documents for lighting, power, and fire alarm systems in commercial, retail, and industrial building projects. Visited jobsites to survey existing conditions and perform construction administration. Coordinated design parameters with Architects, owners and other trade Engineers.

Served 2 years at Goodwyn, Mills, Cawood (GMC) as Sr. Electrical Engineer in Montgomery, AL.  Performed electrical design and C.A.D. drafting of schematic, design development and construction documents for lighting, power, lightning protection, and fire alarm systems in commercial, retail, educational, sports facilities, DOT, municipal, and federal building projects. Visited jobsites to survey existing conditions and perform construction administration. Performed lighting systems studies and made recommendations for improvement. Mentored junior designers and managed department draftsman and designers. Interacted with Architects, owners, end users, and other trade engineers to coordinate design parameters. Successfully procured the final year of a five-year contract for NASA in Huntsville, AL.

Served 2 years at Teeter Engineering Group, PA as Sr. Electrical Engineer in Charlotte, NC.  Performed electrical design and C.A.D. drafting of schematic, design development and construction documents for lighting, power, and fire alarm systems in commercial, retail, educational, and automotive dealership building projects. Visited jobsites to survey existing conditions and perform construction administration. Performed lighting systems studies and made recommendations for improvement. Interacted with Architects, owners and other trade engineers to coordinate design parameters. Notable projects include new welcome center and renovations projects at Covenant Presbyterian Church, Charlotte, NC; New Office Building for Hinds Feet Farm, major renovation of Red Cross facility in Wilmington, NC; New Industrial facility for Up North Plastics, Cottage Grove, MN; New Student Lounge / Dining facility at Westchester Country Day School, High Point, NC.
